I need to remove the steering wheel from my 96 monte carlo. How do I keep the airbag from opening?

I need to remove the steering wheel to change out the turning signal switch.|||TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES BEFORE WORKING ON IT LEAVE IT DISCONNECTED WHILE CHANGING EVER THING OVER I%26#039;VE DONE IT WITH BATT CONNECTED AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM|||disconnect the wiring harness from it when you loose it up,,you can also take the battery cable off,,which is a good idea anyway,,but once you pull the bolts from the air bag it comes out enough so that you can disconnect the wires from it,,i hope this help.s.
