turned on for a while. later on i tried to crank it and it wont go just the crank. fuel pump working. fuel injectors do not inject fuel when i crank it with the key. tried putting direct power to the injectors and it does turn on. what could it be? the key does not have a chip.

It doesn't have a pellet, it is built into that cylinder that you replaced. It has Passlock system. You will have to perform the 30 minute relearn or tow to a delaership %26amp; have them program it with the laptop which takes less time. That is if it will take since they are from different years. But try the relearn procedure first

I have a 95 ford f150 4x4. Its great but only recently i found that my steering wheel rumbles, and only in 3rd gear. its a 5 spd. My 4x4 is off and the hubs are on free. what is possibly causing my wheel to rumble. I got perfect tires. all inflated properly and a recent oil change. it only rumbles in third gear but why?

Unless Lexus are different from other cars in this respect, I don't think there is a way to routinely change power steering fluid as it doesn't ever need to be changed unless you have allowed some contaminant to get in it somehow.

My dealer did an alignment on my SUV, but when I drive straight the steering wheel is slightly off still.?
When I brought it in I needed an alignment because the steering wheel was off slightly to the right. Now when the dealer did an alignment the steering wheel is off slightly to the left. I changed all 4 tires a few months so I don't know if the tires have any impact on this or not but they are brand new. While at the dealer today I also had them rotate all 4 tires. What should my next step be? I would hate to keep going back to the dealer.

Then about a year ago a friend of mine bought a brand new Nissan truck, and his wheel was off. In both cases, the steering wheels were pulled and re-centered.
I've also seen off steering wheels that were cured with an alignment.

If you unmounted the McPherson strut when changing the axle which I believe you would have to do when swapping the axles then the remounting of the strut may not be where it was before starting. The strut holds the tire upright and controls how the top of the tire leans in or out. When you reattached the strut it did not get put back where it had been and now the tie-rod attached to it is now out of position. I doubt anything is worn out this soon after replacing the axle. Take the car in for a front end alignment and the shop should be able to reposition it for you.

You have a suspension problem. Your CV shaft shouldn't affect the wheel alinement unless for some reason your tie rod ends have been replaced or adjusted.
Check ball joints, tie rods
Worn ball joints (if equipped), worn tie rod ends, worn shocks. Or possibly you didn't get everything tightened properly after working on it. The steering wheel being not centered indicates bad wheel alignment which can be contributed to the aforementioned parts being worn out.

did you get the alignment? or did they tell you they did it and didn't? get this checked unless you'd like to keep the pulling, which will eventually ruin your front end anyway.also have the joints and tie rods checked, by someone reliable, not a back yard mechanic, or ultra cheap. good luck

and i bet it was the same thing.. and it probably happens to alot of durangos
its the power steering.. it seriously is a piece of crap. I have had to change mine like 3 times. But honestly, the cheep fix is to get power steering fluid and put more in every 2-3 weeks (about 5-6 dollars a bottle)

Also, the Dodge Durango is one of the most problematic vehicles on Yahoo Answers.
Might recheck your linkage to make sure everything is locked and ******. Sounds like a tie rod but if they just replaced the rack they would have recommended a new tie rod if it was loose.
They can check the upper and lower BJ's as well.

I am planning to buy a new stereo for my car. The one I have been looking at is the Sony CDX GT33U

I just had 4 new tires install yesterday at tire plus and I notice now that my steering wheel is a little bit softer. By that I mean the steering wheel is softer or lighter when I turn it. It is not as responsive as it was before. It is more easy for the steering wheel to turn, but it takes more turning of the steering wheel before the car actually turns.
I have a 2002 Acura 32.TL that suggest V rated tires. But I had 4 new Affinity Touring tires on it with a H speed rating.
I don't know it the differences of speed rating is affecting my steering wheel to have a softer turn? or is it that the tires are new and that's just the way it is when tires are new? or could it even be the type of brand of tires I bought?
Have anyone done this before and have their steering wheel handling change?

I just changed the right wheel bearing & hub on my 93 saturn sl2, now the steering is messed up?
I had to adjust the outer tie rod end in order to try to keep the wheels relatively aligned, it kinda looks like I may have over adjusted it, but not by much (the wheel is at an angle maybe 1 cm off from where it should be). I didn't think this would be enough to effect it, but the steering worked just fine before I did this. Now when turning left, the resistance is normal, when turning right, there is no resistance in the steering wheel, and either way, the steering wheel doesn't return itself to center as it once did.
Could that slight misalignment be enough to cause this? If not, what else could be causing this?
(Keep in mind that this didn't happen until I changed the wheel bearing/hub assembly).

I would suggest you go to a tire shop / alignment and get it fixed at once. I hope you put the bearing in correctly. Amateurs should not attempt to repair wheel bearings, steering linkage, or brakes.

Contact your local stereo shop to find the right part you need for your vehicle. They should be professionally wired in and programed. How do I break a wheel-bearing hub free from steering knuckle?
Need to change a front wheel-bearing on a 97 Chevy Cavalier. The bearing is in a pre-assembled hub. I removed the three bolts holding the hub to the steering knuckle but couldn't get the bearing out because it seemed to be rusted in there. I tried using Seafoam (rust remover) and that didn't seem to change anything... and I have pretty well pried and hammered at it with small tools. What would a shop use to get it off? Please be specific if you know... like the name of tools or equipment and possibly where I can get them or rent them. Thanks!

Ex Rover man here...2 screws to undo,back of wheel,(they were fitted with an air gun) carefully remove airbag,disconnect yellow lead, unscrew large centre nut,(that was tightened on the tracks at Longbridge with a large socket) remove wheel. ALL the screws and nuts will be very tight,but with the proper tools no problem.I don't think the airbag will be any use after !!!

Steering wheel volume on 2005 mercury mountaineer is broken.?
just recently the volume control on my 2005 Mercury Mountaineer's steering wheel stopped working.
When I press the button it does everything else but change the volume. Sometimes it changes tracks on a CD, other times it changes the audio source, and again other times it will change the radio station.
This car is in very good condition. Aside from this issue, it has no other problems.
What could this be? Is it something I could fix? Or would i have to take it somewhere?

Yep had the same problem with my car. The switches have tiny contacts in them and all it takes is for one to break.
Genuine part needed here - sorry there is no option.
By the way, rule out crossed wiring - it doesnt just cross itself - if you know what I mean!!!!!

Assuming you checeked the fluid level and it is fine, then the power steering pump needs replacing.

If the battery light is coming on, you are loosing the charge given off by the alternator. Do you hear any noise when you loose the power steering? If so, one of the belt drive accessories may be locking up. The alternator, the A/C compressor, the power steering pump, or even the water pump.
It is difficult to diagnose the issue without looking at the car, or knowing what type of accessories it has. But with the limited information you have provided, this is where I would start looking. Something is causing the belt to stop turning, thus stopping the alternator to stop charging.
the battery light only comes on if the engine shut off or the alt suddenly failed but the alt wouldn't cause hard steer and engine shut off would. I'd guess you have a short someplace thats killing all power for a split second and your not awaire of it.

My steering wheels sits funny when driving down the road. For instance if you have a line in the middle of the steering wheel from 3 o'clock to 9 o;clock, when driving down the road the line in the middle would be 1 o'clock to 7:30. Get it realigned, some of them will change the camber on the alignment, when changing struts, the bottom strut bolts are sometimes to change the camber on it. Try jacking car up by suspension and loosen both lower bolts, then retighten them on both sides.

But if its a VERY harsh vibration, and when you pop the hood and you can actually see your motor moving back an forth, I'd lean towards bad motor mounts or a possible problem inside the engine. But you did say it was worse in the back seat which leads me to believe it could be the exhaust clamps/problem in the exhaust system. You would really need to give us more information about the actual problem for a more clear answer (but I do understand that its hard to do when you really don't much about it.) You can take a quick peek while the car is running and see if your exhaust is wobbling or if you see any perforations in the exhaust. Good luck!

why does my car make a whining noise when I turn the steering wheel? i 2 days ago i changed the timing belt and while doing that i decided to change the radiator belt and the steering belt because they where worn. So there was no noise with the old belt and there is with the new one. Also i had to disconnect a steering fluid hose because it was in my way and it drip some fluid but then i refill it. i think the tension is ok but what do you think?

When that happened to my Jeep, it turned out the balancing weights on my wheels came off, and I was past due for a rotation. If you call around to a few places, and tell them what's happening, ask if you bring your car up there if they can just look but not touch. Some places will charge like $20, other's will do it for free. Either or though, it can't be ignored.

What causes steering wheel vibration at highway speeds if I just changed to new tires on my 2005 SUV?
I bought 4 new Goodyear Integrity's tires for my 2005 Toyota Highlander. The tire shop balanced the tires twice since I bought the tires 2 months ago, but I still get the vibration. The tire shop says that the rim is to blame, not the tire because the rim is defective and when the problem is from driving aotand hitting pot holes, etc..... My old tires didn't have any steering wheel vibration issues at highway speeds at all though. Should I go back to the tire shop a 3rd time and ask for a manager?

Hey - my insurance company does vehicle inspections; does yours?
I am thinking little beyond your question: is by any chance you mean that when you apply brake then it vibrate at highway speed or its just vibrate when it goes on high speed. If on brake then get your brake pad changed and if its not on brake then follow these steps one at a time.
First and foremost check the alignment also of the tyre as slight misalignment at highway speed could vobble the tyre.
Secondly: get the wheel balancing from outside, not from the same shop and see. As sometime balancing equipment or guy is faulty but they dont realize and so they dont accept. More than likely this problem is out of balancing.
Thirdly: If still problem persist then do cross rotation of the tyres and check. If this helps you then the tyre was faulty and ask for replacement as there could be little bump or swolleness or mistread in any one or more tyre. As same happened with me. And i discovered that one tyre was having slight swelling in center. You anyways check for this point by yourself. Take a rubber glove and start feeling the tyre base area with your palm and try to notice if there is anything wrong, or if you cannot figure out or feel doubted then your friend second opinion about same as that minor fault is not easy to judge.
Fourth: Check the rim and ask any wheel balancing guy they can fix it too. But this highly unlikely as your old tyres was just fine with it.

There are a few reasons that could cause this condition. Integrity tires are directional. They must be installed a certain way. Check the side of the tires for an emblem that looks like an arrow. The arrow should point over the top of the tire from back to front, or in the direction of rotation when driving forward. A reversed tire will try to wobble. If you have alloy wheels, over tightening the wheel nuts will warp the rim, causing a vibration starting at about 50mph/80kph. The best method to determine the cause is to have your local dealer check it out for reason and cause. It may cost a few bucks, but you will have a real answer to your problem.

First and foremost check the alignment also of the tyre as slight misalignment at highway speed could vobble the tyre.
Secondly: get the wheel balancing from outside, not from the same shop and see. As sometime balancing equipment or guy is faulty but they dont realize and so they dont accept. More than likely this problem is out of balancing.
Thirdly: If still problem persist then do cross rotation of the tyres and check. If this helps you then the tyre was faulty and ask for replacement as there could be little bump or swolleness or mistread in any one or more tyre. As same happened with me. And i discovered that one tyre was having slight swelling in center. You anyways check for this point by yourself. Take a rubber glove and start feeling the tyre base area with your palm and try to notice if there is anything wrong, or if you cannot figure out or feel doubted then your friend second opinion about same as that minor fault is not easy to judge.
Fourth: Check the rim and ask any wheel balancing guy they can fix it too. But this highly unlikely as your old tyres was just fine with it.

There are a few reasons that could cause this condition. Integrity tires are directional. They must be installed a certain way. Check the side of the tires for an emblem that looks like an arrow. The arrow should point over the top of the tire from back to front, or in the direction of rotation when driving forward. A reversed tire will try to wobble. If you have alloy wheels, over tightening the wheel nuts will warp the rim, causing a vibration starting at about 50mph/80kph. The best method to determine the cause is to have your local dealer check it out for reason and cause. It may cost a few bucks, but you will have a real answer to your problem.

Steering wheel shakes over 50 mph?
My steering wheel was shaking over 50 mph. I went to get them balanced and rotated. The front 2 both had knots on the. The back right one also had a slight flat spot but I did not change it. Now my steering wheel does not shake near as much but it still does a little. Plus it pulls to the right slightly. Could this be because of me not changing the back right tire.

Every since I took my 91 Honda Accord to walmart %26quot;in February%26quot;, for an oil change my steering wheel has been messed up. Walmart said I was leaking transmission fluid, I told them thanks for telling me but I will take care of it myself. The next day my steering wheel squeaks when I turn and the power steering pump was overflowing. I filled my pump with Honda steering fluid and the overflowing has stopped. But the wheel vibrates a lot passed 50 mph and pulls to the right. Just yesterday I blew a radiator hose,so I replaced it. When I went to test drive the car the steering wheel spun to the left about 20 times and slightly moved the tires. I shut the car off and it stopped. I turned it back on and it continued to spin. I didn't drive my car and the next day I went to see if it was drivable and I turned the car on and the steering wheel didn't spin,just a little stiff. Then the pump began to overflow like in February. I need some opinions on this because everyone else I talk to said they have never heard anything like it. Please help! thanks

I have an '06 Dodge Charger and today it was normal, I shut it of and when I started it back up about 10 minutes later and started driving home I notice the ESP and BAS lights were on, the traction control light was also on. I thought this was weird and hit the ESP OFF button and nothing changed. I came to a stoplight and noticed the turn signal wasn't working in either direction (the hazards still work). I tried the wipers, nothing, the cruise control, nothing, even the horn doesn't work. Everything else seems ok, just everything on the actual steering wheel and column doesn't work. It has about 19,000 miles on it and it is under warranty but I am going out of town in 2 days and wanted to maybe get a heads up on what might be wrong any help would be great!

I drive a 2004 Dodge Neon SXT. I've recently had to replace the battery in the car, but a couple of days after replacing it, the steering wheel has started to have some resistance while I've been driving. I've checked the power steering levels and everything seems to be fine under the hood. This is starting to become a problem because the locking occurs after I've started to drive on interstates to and from work, which is an obvious hazard. What can be the problem? My 2001 neon makes a "thunking" when I turn the wheel and shakes?
When I turn my steering wheel changing directions I hear a thunking noise that seems to be coming from the from middle section of the underside of my car. It's most noticeable when I go back and forth... this makes it happen. I know that it's probably some kind of mechanism engaging and disengaging as I change directions but mine is louder than other chrysler vehicles of similar year I've compared to.
Along with this, I have occasionally noticed shaking while driving - most times if the wheel is just slightly to the left.
Any idea what's causing this and/or how much repairs would be?

You need to have your CV joints checked, they are likely worn out, causing the clunking sound you hear when the wheel is turned. Alternately, you could have the entire axle replaced with a rebuilt unit, it's usually cheaper than replacing just the worn CV joint. Axles run anywhere from $50 to $90 at most auto parts stores.
Neon are known for their CV axles making the noise described I would start looking their and then if that wasn't the problem check the motor mounts and trans mount I recommend if it is a cv axle or motor mount have it replace by a cert mechanic unless you have the proper tools

How do I go about changing the ignition switch on a 1989 Grand Prix with a tilt steering column?
Okay what i have done, pulled the steering wheel, removed the cancel camremoved the plastic cover and the turn signal switch. Pulled the pivot pins and removed the bolt in the pinch clamp at the end of the steering shaft. The directions say to just remove the shaft assembly and housing then do some other stuff. My only problem is i cant remove it and therefore cant move on. There are two half inch bolts that connect the steering column to the dash which ive removed they did nothing also removed two bolts close to the fire wall which together the 4 bolts allowed the entire column to drop down to the floor but would not allow to shaft to come out.

Get out the little mag light and your stubby screwdriver and go for it. There might be some goop where it goes through the firewall to seal it. Maybe thats holding it.. Make sure it's not a wiring harness you're yankin on!

Hello, I'd like to change the steering wheel on my 74 Nova with a GRANT racing wheel, the problem is that the previous owner change the original steering wheel,so i dont know where this steering wheel came out of,it looks like 78 CAMARO, not quite sure. I am a senior and, when I learned to drive, test points were deducted if I allowed the steering wheel to slide in my hands. My daughter's driving instructor told her that it is OK to do that. Have the rules changed over the years? Is it OK to let the wheel slide as long as you think you have adequate control while it happens?

I'm a senior also, and i'm telling you it is not safe to let the wheel slip in your hands. If you hit a pot hole it can turn the wheel faster than you can grab it. Stearing a car is hand and hand, meaning you may slide your hand on the wheel. say your making a right turn, pull on the wheel with your right hand and let the wheel slide in your left hand. Now slid your right hand back and contenue pulling to make turn. The wheel has to be worked with both hands so one hand always has a hold on it. You won't to see how this is done, watch a police officer drive, or a race car driver. I think your daughter miss under stood what her driving instructor was saying. If you know how, by all means show your daughter.

Intermediate steering shaft replaced, wheel is off center?
I had the dealer replace the intermediate steering shaft on my 02 chevy monte carlo. When i drove off, i noticed the wheel is about 5 degrees off on a straight road. I called them up and they said it has nothing to do with the steering shaft they replaced. I need an alignment. The car was fine before, how is it possible that I need an alignment right after they changed the steering shaft. Is this true what they said or they're lying to me?

Hard to say without hearing the squeak or where it is coming from. Posibilities are rack and pinion, clock spring, tie rod end or the pump. I have seen all of these.

I would probably take it to an Acura dealer to see if it will work at first. I would then go with the RDX steering wheel or TL steering wheel. I am not sure if there are an kits you could buy, but considering the age of the Accord and the newness in the steering wheel, there are bound to be buttons that will not work. The best advice I have is to go to the acura dealer.

It can be a bit of a fiddly job and I wouldn't advise a %26quot;DIY mechanic%26quot; to do it.
You would first need to disconnect the cars battery lead to enable the safe removal of the airbag.
There are two holes (almost like slits) on the reverse of the steering wheel.(This is the tricky part) You would need insert a Torx 20 screwdriver into the holes and try to locate the spring clips which hold the airbag on. There are no screws but a Torx 20 is the best size driver to use for a lever.
Once the airbag is off you can simply disconnect the plugs on the back of it. Then it is just a case of removing the centre bolt.
As I have said it is not an easy job and I would recommend that you pay for someone to do it for 2 reasons. Firstly, time wise they would not be able to charge too much labour (no more than around half an hour). Secondly, if you are not that familiar with doing it then the money spent would be far better value than the struggle and time spent doing it yourself.

My brake light above the rear window works but the brake lights and the front and rear tail lights to not flash or light up when the brake is applied. second, the horn pad cover removes from the back of the wheel, and is very tight.
the airbag is nested behind that with screws.
by him changing the steering wheel, the airbag light will constantly stay lit unless you remove the bulb, and then there's another issue.. you get to remove the guage cluster to do that.
you sons safety is at risk by him removing the airbag just for asthetics.. but it's not my car to judge..

If fluid is too low, - it sucks some air in with power steering fluid, - and the escaping compressed bubbles make this noise!-- If you see little or no fluid down in pump through the %26quot;fill hole, - fill it up again, - turn all the way in each direction a couple times, and check again! By now it should be full after reapeated turning in both directions! Keep up the sequence till it stays at the %26quot;full mark on indicator inside %26quot;cover /cap%26quot;!

I have a 2006 Dodge Dakota that had a minor alignmnet problem and an out of center steering wheel. I took it to the dealer and told them to center my steering wheel. They agreed with me and told me they could do it and charged me 89.00. Long story short no change. Am I asking to much? Truck has 13000 miles on it and the tires appear to have normal wear.

First of all you paid to much. At my shop ( an AcDelco service center ) We charge 49.00 for a complete alignment on a rear wheel drive vehicle. Second of all, if you took it in and ask specifically for the steering wheel to be straight, It SHOULD be straight. It is not hard at all to get a straight steering wheel during a alignment IF you know what you are doing, but apparently that's the problem. I would definitely take it back, but I don't think I would let the same guy do it.

When a proper front end alignment is dont the steering wheel should be center, if it isnt then the alignment is not correct, take it back and tell them that.

First of all you paid to much. At my shop ( an AcDelco service center ) We charge 49.00 for a complete alignment on a rear wheel drive vehicle. Second of all, if you took it in and ask specifically for the steering wheel to be straight, It SHOULD be straight. I'm not sure about the laws in the USA, but certainly you can import Left Hand Drive cars from Europe and the USA to Australia and New Zealand and get approval to drive them.
If you import a falcon Ute to the USA it will be a right hand drive car going to the States. You guys drive from the left seat right?
no, just check emmisions, retired left hand drive postal vehicles can be bought by anyone and driven normally

It looks just like a regular puller but its %26quot;U%26quot; shape....

there is still a way you can do it. you just need the steering wheel control adapter for that new radio you get. for example, if you get a pioneer radio you'll need to get the PAC SWI-PS which is a steering wheel adapter for pioneer and sony stereo.
some of the newer alpine decks will work with your steering wheel controls. just go to alpine.com and look at the decks they should say if they will work or not.
