i want to change the stock stereo to a nicer one but id like to know if the steering wheel controls will still work after- change songs and volume control. if any one with a grand cherokee has tried this please let me know! thanks!

Only if you install the proper steering wheel interface afterwards. If just installing a new radio, then no, they will not work.
