i've done it and had no problems. i don't know what inspection it would possibly fail. emissions is the only inspection that you have to pass and it has nothing to do with the steering wheel you have on your car

no its not legal to tamper with any of the safety devices that the vehicle has on it,and if you do this it probably wouldn't pass an inspection ,plus it would be unsafe in the event of an accident,id rather be safe than have a good looking steering wheel, its your vehicle though ,but if it were me i wouldn't change it,good luck.
It will fail inspection, AND it's stupid!

NOBODY (except for you) cares even a little bit what your steering wheel (or your entire car, for that matter!) looks like, they really don't!

If you really, really want to improve your chances of dying in a traffic accident before you reach 25, sell the car and buy a motorcycle!
I would advise you DO NOT MESS WITH ANY AIRBAG EVER. Unless you are attempting to badly injure yourself. If you have too much static on your body you could set it off. So I repeat DO NOT TOUCH IT you will fail any inspection you have but then again you probably wouldn't have to worry bout that with two broken arms.
It probably wont pass inspection if it is required by law.I do not like those huge thick steering wheels either.I like the slim ones they had in the 70's.
have inspection then replace save it for next time
my advise would be to leave well alone always put your safety before your style
